“I think he’s looked really good” – Glen Johnson on 20 year old Chelsea ace

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has revealed he’s enjoyed watching Malo Gusto this season.

Gusto joined the Blues last summer in a deal worth £26m from French club Lyon and is having an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.

The 20 year old has found himself as a regular starter for Mauricio Pochettino this season given the injury problems that have plagued Reece James.

Gusto has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and put in some impressive performances and looks to be a complete modern day fullback.

He’s defensively sound and is a real threat going forward with the Frenchman registering seven assists in all competitions so far this season.

Johnson a former Chelsea fullback himself has really liked what he has seen from Gusto and when asked about the former Lyon man he told Squawka: “Yeah, well, obviously we saw glimpses of him before, but it’s a bit stop start, stop start for him because obviously Reece was the main man.”

“But it’s good to see him have a run of games and get some form and get some confidence. And like I say, he has been good to watch. You know, he’s bags of energy, he’s good on the ball, exciting when he goes forward.”

“So I think he’s looked really good, and like I say, it’s good for him because he has had to wait a long time for his chance. But for me, at the moment, he’s taken it.”

Gusto will be hoping to help his team mates beat Leicester City on Sunday in the FA Cup quarter final and book a return to Wembley.
