MTN Ghana users can’t purchase data and airtime on Jan 2, 2026 – Here is why
MTN Ghana has announced that it will carry out maintenance work on its network on January 2, 2026.

According to the company, the maintenance is part of preparations for the implementation of the new VAT reform tariffs.
MTN cautioned that between 12:00 am and 4:00 am on January 2, 2026, customers will not be able to buy data bundles or airtime during the exercise.
The VAT reform forms part of the government’s wider effort to improve revenue collection and adjust taxes on digital services. As a major player in the telecom sector, MTN said updating its systems ahead of time is necessary to avoid billing problems that could occur if old tax rates clash with the new ones.
