Name a school after Daddy Lumba – Mama Acheampong tells Mahama

Mama Acheampong, the music teacher of the late Ghanaian Highlife icon Daddy Lumba, recently shared her cherished memories of the legendary musician after his passing on July 26, 2025.

Reflecting on Lumba’s exceptional talent, she described him as not only a brilliant artist but also a multitalented individual with a remarkable ability to create music spontaneously.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Mama Acheampong appealed to the government in a viral video “He had a sharp, captivating voice that could thrill an audience on the spot.

She reminisced about the formation of the Lumba Brothers, a group that showcased Lumba’s artistic prowess, which later expanded to include Theresah Abebrese. “He was an exceptional singer and songwriter, and Charles was always respectful and intelligent. The children adored him,” she added with palpable affection.

In light of ongoing discussions regarding a statue to honour the late musician, Mama Acheampong expressed her genuine desire for lasting recognition that would benefit future generations.
