Nana Akomea opens up on selling STC land
The immediate past Managing Director (MD) of State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea, has dismissed as “wicked lies” claims that he sold the company’s land during his tenure.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on Tuesday, May 27, Nana Akomea insisted he would have resisted any attempt to involve him in such an act.
He criticised the new Deputy MD of STC for spreading falsehoods about him and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing the allegations as reckless and baseless.
According to him, the sale of STC lands happened before his time, under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. He cited examples including four acres at the STC head office sold to BCM, four acres in Takoradi sold to Melcom, and the official STC MD’s bungalow at Roman Ridge sold to Caitec.
He explained that during his administration, STC lands were instead developed through rental partnerships that generated revenue for the company.
“Isn’t this better than the outright sale of STC lands as occurred under the NDC?” he asked.
Nana Akomea also responded to complaints by the new Deputy MD about STC’s bus fleet, urging him to focus on securing the twenty new buses for which a substantial part payment had already been made.
He took issue with the Deputy MD’s claim in an interview on Accra FM with Bobie Ansah that the company was “dead” and “gone,” lacking buses and terminals.
“If the company is truly ‘dead’, how is it paying salaries for over 700 staff, including the Deputy MD himself, and servicing its monthly bank loans?” he questioned.
Speaking again on Accra FM, Nana Akomea revealed that efforts to acquire the twenty new buses had stalled due to the new Deputy MD’s inaction.
He advised him to stop spreading propaganda and misinformation about STC and its past management, warning that such tactics are easily exposed.
