NDC exposes NPP for putting SHS students under stress

The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) of exposing school kids to danger by busing them to political programmes.

According to Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, the development is very worrying and indicates the desperation of the NPP to create an illusion of popularity, especially for the flag-bearer of the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi, Nana Kwasi criticized the NPP for allegedly using senior high students in its political campaign efforts to bolster popularity in the Ashanti region.

He said the NPP was now busing students to attend its political campaigns under the guise of a so-called youth connect programme.

The Chairman indicated that the busing of students to the Kumasi Jubilee Park created an impression that the popularity of Dr Bawumia was indeed sinking in the party’s stronghold, the Ashanti region.

Mr Andrews highlighted ethical concerns regarding the safety of students and the disruption of their educational environment by involving them in partisan political activities. He emphasized that Ghanaian laws prohibit partisan politics within senior high schools, urging scrutiny of headmasters who permitted students to attend political rallies during school hours.

Calling for parental vigilance, Mr Andrews urged collaboration with the NDC to demand accountability from the Ghana Education Service for compromising students’ educational integrity and safety.
