Nii Moi Thompson Appointed NDPC Chairman

Development Economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has been appointed as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), pending consultations with the Council of State.
A statement dated Monday, February 3, 2025, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, confirmed the appointment.
Role and Responsibilities
As NDPC Chairman, Dr. Thompson will work closely with key national stakeholders, including:
- Minister for Finance
- Governor of the Bank of Ghana
- Government Statistician
- Presidential appointees
- Regional representatives from all 16 regions
His primary responsibility will be to provide strategic policy advice to the President and Parliament on Ghana’s long-term development agenda.
Experience and Background
Dr. Thompson previously served as Director-General of the NDPC, where he led the preparation of Ghana’s 40-Year Development Plan.
From 2014 to 2015, he played a key role in representing Ghana’s technical delegations at the UN to develop the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and later facilitated their integration into Ghana’s national policies.
Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo Appointed Acting CEO of FIC
Alongside Dr. Thompson’s appointment, President Mahama has named Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) until a new Board is constituted.
Mr. Twum Boafo is an experienced Civil Engineer and Finance Expert. He previously served as Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (2009–2017).
Educational Background
Mr. Twum Boafo holds:
- BEng in Materials Engineering – University of Wales
- MSc in Civil Engineering – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York
- MBA in Finance and Investment Analysis – Stetson University, Deland, Florida, USA
Both appointments are expected to strengthen Ghana’s economic planning and financial oversight institutions.
