NPP first….that’s it! – Richard Ahiagbah clashes with Prof Frimpong-Boateng

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has reacted to comments by former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, over claims that the party should not elect former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Ahiagbah accused the renowned heart surgeon and politician of attacking the party in an effort to promote his preferred candidate in the upcoming NPP primaries.

He said Prof. Frimpong-Boateng is free to support any aspirant of his choice but should do so without dragging the party’s name or undermining other contenders.

In a social media post on January 13, 2026, Ahiagbah wrote, “I think Prof. Boateng is campaigning for his candidate; the only problem is that he is impugning the NPP to advance his candidate ahead of the 31st January primaries. It’s okay for him to do so but not at the detriment of the party or Dr Bawumia as he did in his interview on Channel One.

“Prof’s is harmful to the prospects of his candidate and the party. Indeed, this approach to campaigning for one’s candidate is, to say the least, damaging. Truth is, any one of the five aspirants will give the NPP a fighting chance in the 2028 presidential election. Now, let Prof. advance why he thinks his preferred candidate gives NPP a superior fighting chance in 2028. This is the way to go… Let’s all focus on the big picture. NPP first….that’s it!”

Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng had earlier cautioned that re-electing former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer would be disastrous for the party, describing such a move as a “train wreck.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
