NPP Flagbearer Race: Bawumia sweeps Yunyoo, Chereponi and Saboba constituencies

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to become the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer in 2026 has received a significant boost following strong endorsements from party delegates and executives in parts of northern Ghana.

All electoral area coordinators in the Yunyoo and Chereponi constituencies of the North East Region, as well as the Saboba constituency in the Northern Region, have publicly declared their support for Dr Bawumia.

The endorsements came on the final day of Dr Bawumia’s tour of the North East Region. The Yunyoo and Chereponi constituencies joined Yagaba, Walewale and Bunkpurugu, which had earlier announced their backing for the former Vice President.

At a well-attended gathering with delegates, including polling station executives, the coordinators of Yunyoo and Chereponi formally endorsed Dr Bawumia as he took his campaign bus through the constituencies. A similar show of support followed in Saboba in the Northern Region, where another group of coordinators declared their endorsement.

Dr Bawumia’s campaign has continued to gain traction at the grassroots level, with electoral area coordinators across several constituencies nationwide openly backing his candidature.

Electoral area coordinators are considered a crucial bloc within the NPP’s electoral college.
