NPP Flagbearer Race: Dr Bryan Acheampong runs to church for protection
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer slot ahead of the 2028 general elections. His announcement was accompanied by a strong message of faith and spirituality.

As a way of grounding his political ambition in his religious beliefs, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture paid a visit to the Moderator and members of the General Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
Describing the visit as a significant spiritual moment, Dr. Acheampong said the meeting was marked by prayer, deep reflection, and anointing.
“Today, I visited the Moderator and some members of the General Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. I reaffirmed the spiritual roots that have shaped my values, my leadership, and my sense of purpose. It was a deeply moving encounter filled with reflection, prayer, and anointing. Faith is not just a part of my story, it is the foundation on which it stands,” he posted on X after the meeting.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the visit, Dr. Acheampong explained that launching a presidential campaign is no small step, and he believed it was necessary to seek divine guidance before going forward.
“I want to start with God and finish with God. I’m a politician and you know how treacherous the political journey can be, and God is the requirement for a journey like this, and the requirement for life. Therefore, I needed to see the church and seek their blessings and continuous prayer while I embark on this journey,” he said.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong is now entering what is expected to be a highly competitive race. He will likely face off against former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, both of whom are also eyeing the party’s ticket for the December 7, 2028, general elections.
