NPP is now running away from polling stations in Bintu, their stronghold – Solomon Owusu reveals

Solomon Owusu, a key figure in the Movement for Change, has criticised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of taking the party in the wrong direction after it announced a boycott of the rerun of elections in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Owusu said he was shocked by the NPP’s public decision not to participate in the rerun, describing the move as “politically illogical.”

“Those leading the party are leading it astray,” he remarked.

He pointed out that the affected polling stations are known NPP strongholds, making their withdrawal even more surprising.

“NPP is now running away from polling stations in Bintu… their stronghold. Then there’s something monumentally wrong somewhere,” he said.

Owusu further questioned the party’s electoral confidence and strategy, especially in areas like Nyamekye, which he described as long-standing NPP bases.

“Growing up and knowing the composition of voters in Nyamekye, who can convince me that the NPP, if well-organised, cannot go there and win?” he asked.

He argued that a press conference alone cannot serve as a legitimate notice to withdraw from an electoral process and called on the party to follow the right legal and electoral procedures if it truly intends to pull out.

“If today the NPP says they will not participate in any election involving Ablekuma North, then it’s a source of concern,” he stressed.
