NPP presidential primary is for me – Kwabena Agyepong

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and presidential hopeful, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has acknowledged that while the contest for the party’s flagbearer position will be challenging, he is confident of emerging victorious.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, during the official launch of his campaign, the civil engineer expressed confidence in his strong support among party members.

“It’s going to be tough—I’m not making any bones about it,” he said.

He noted that one of his competitors has served as Vice President for years and enjoys widespread recognition, but emphasized that his own deep-rooted connections with the party’s base give him an advantage.

“I’ve been out of the picture for 10 years, but the kind of support I’m getting from the party’s grassroots is strong. They remember I was one of the young men who helped build this party from scratch. Mind you, I’m the only one among the aspirants who has been elected as General Secretary,” he stated.

Mr. Agyepong emphasized themes of party loyalty, unity, discipline, and the importance of rewarding hard work and commitment.

“With me, the NPP has a clear path to unity and victory. I am the surest bet to regain the people’s trust and reclaim power in the next election,” he added.

He also pledged to reconcile with and bring back Alan Kyerematen, founder of the Movement for Change and a former member of the NPP.
