NPP Race: Here is why Nat’l Security was excluded at voting centres

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has explained why the party decided not to involve National Security operatives in securing its presidential primary.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, January 30, Haruna Mohammed said the decision was based on intelligence the party has received, suggesting possible interference by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the NPP prefers the Ghana Police Service to be solely responsible for security during the internal election. He said the party has concerns about how National Security operatives have allegedly been used under the current NDC administration.

He claimed that in recent times, some people presenting themselves as National Security operatives have been used to intimidate political opponents and create confusion, and the NPP wants to avoid such situations during its presidential primary.

Haruna Mohammed said the move is meant to protect the integrity of the election, prevent intimidation, and ensure that delegates can vote freely in a peaceful and transparent atmosphere.

“We’ve picked up intelligence about certain happenings that the NDC want to perpetrate because of the peaceful nature of the elections we conducted in 2023. They were not very happy with that peaceful election. Now that they have control of national security, and the manner in which they have been using it to bulldoze their way into people’s houses—Ntim Fordjour is a clear example; Adenta Kumi, Abronye, and Wontumi are also clear examples.

“In some instances, some of them are not national security operatives; they are hoodlums of the NDC. They go in, cause mayhem, create confusion, and get away with it. We don’t want any non-uniformed security officer at the venues for the election of our presidential candidate.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
