NSMQ 2023: Wesley Girls thrashes Archbishop Porter Girls, Ghanata SHS in one-eighth contest

Wesley Girls Senior High School once again delivered a remarkable performance in the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The Central regional sweethearts, who were kicked out at the one-eighth stage last year after suffering a defeat to Mawuli SHS, returned to the contest in 2023 better and stronger than before.

At their first prelims stage in eight years, they beat their competitors, three-time champions St Peter’s, with 52 points.

Replicating that dedication for the one-eighth, Wesley Girls beat their Central Regional counterparts Archbishop Porter Girls and Ghanata SHS.

Wesley Girls dominated the contest throughout the various stages.

They ended round one with 30 points. By the end of round two Porter Girls and Ghanata SHS had accumulated 10 and 13 points respectively while Wesley Girls were at 43.

However, Wesley Girls stumbled in round three after scoring one point in the problem of the day as compared to Porter Girls’ 5 points.

But they cruised through the other two rounds and won the competition.

They won with 54 points, a 29-point difference between them and Porter Girls who finished with 25 points a one-point lead against Ghanata SHS, who completed with 24 points.

With this victory, Wesley Girls once again becomes a seeded school and lands themselves a slot in the quarter-finals.

Wesley Girls will face Mpraeso SHS, who also beat Ghana National with 43 points, and Bishop Herman College at the next stage.
