NSS ‘Ghost Names’ Saga: I urge members of NPP and the general public to be calm – Mustapha Ussif

Former Minister of Sports and ex-Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Mustapha Ussif, has denied any wrongdoing during his time at the Scheme between 2017 and 2021.

His response follows an announcement by the Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, on Friday, June 13, 2025, naming him among 12 individuals alleged to be involved in the GH¢548 million NSS ghost names scandal. The Attorney General indicated that those implicated will face prosecution.

But Mustapha Ussif, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Yagaba Kubore Constituency, insists he is innocent and prepared to defend himself. In an official statement, he said he had always served with “diligence and honesty” in public office.

“I wish to state that I am ready, willing, and able to account for my stewardship at the National Service Scheme (NSS) from February 2017 to January 6, 2021,” he said.

He further added: “Consequently, I welcome any opportunity to do so, including but not limited to having my day in a court of competent jurisdiction.”

STATEMENT BY MUSTAPHA USSIF, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT (YAGABA-KUBORI) AND FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (2017-2020)

The press conference of the Attorney-General held on 13th June 2025 has come to my attention and I wish to categorically deny any alleged wrongdoing.

That said, it is my fervent belief that once you hold public office, you should at all material times, and at whatever cost, be ready willing, and able to account for your stewardship. Therefore, I wish to state that I am ready, willing, and able to account for my stewardship at the National Service Scheme (NSS) from February 2017 to January 6, 2021.

Consequently, I welcome any opportunity to do so including but not limited to having my day in a Court of competent jurisdiction.

I therefore urge all well-wishers, friends family, constituents, members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the general public to be calm, knowing very well that I have, throughout my public life, served with diligence and honesty.
