Nyindam won the seat with a margin of 3,734 votes – Minority rejects ruling on Kpandai parliamentary election

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has challenged the High Court’s decision to annul the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency, insisting that the election was transparent, credible and represented the true will of the people.

In a statement signed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Caucus recounted events at the collation centre and maintained that NPP candidate Mathew Nyindam won the seat with a margin of 3,734 votes.

The statement alleged that after the presidential results were declared in favour of the NPP, the NDC parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, arrived at the collation centre with supporters in a pickup truck wearing NDC-branded T-shirts and damaged ballot boxes in an attempt to disrupt the process.

According to the Minority, the disturbance forced the Electoral Commission (EC) to move the final declaration to its regional office in Tamale. It added that NDC agents had signed all pink sheets across the constituency, confirming the results.

The Minority noted that Mr. Wakpal later rejected the outcome and declined to accompany election officials to Tamale for the declaration. The EC went ahead and declared Mr. Nyindam winner with 27,947 votes against Mr. Wakpal’s 24,213 votes.

However, the Minority argued that the alleged errors were minor. It said that even if all the disputed votes—estimated at about 500—were given to the petitioner, he would still trail by more than 3,000 votes.

Despite this assertion, the Tamale High Court annulled the parliamentary results and ordered a rerun, a development the Minority described as troubling, saying “the facts did not support the ruling.”

A notice of appeal and a motion for stay of execution have since been filed. The Caucus said it remains committed to the rule of law and is confident that the appellate process will affirm the democratic choice of voters in Kpandai…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
