Obuasi East Declared for NPP’s Boakye-Yiadom After Re-collation
In a dramatic conclusion to the Obuasi East parliamentary election, the Electoral Commission has declared Patrick Boakye-Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) the winner after a recount and re-collation process. Boakye-Yiadom retains his seat in Parliament following the closely watched exercise.
The recount was initiated due to discrepancies identified during the initial collation, drawing intense scrutiny from political stakeholders, election observers, and residents.
The process, conducted under strict security protocols at the Greater Accra Regional Office, was closely monitored by officials from both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
After the re-collation, Patrick Boakye-Yiadom secured 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating the NDC’s Samuel Aboagye, who received 18,539 votes. Independent candidate Adjei Owusu Afriyie garnered 424 votes.
