Osei-Fosu admits bittersweet emotions after Sudan’s victory over Ghana

Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu has opened up about the emotional aftermath of his team’s victory over Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Sudan secured a stunning 2-0 win in Libya after earning a 0-0 draw in Accra. The four points gained from the two matches played a pivotal role in Sudan’s qualification, ending Ghana’s run of consecutive AFCON appearances since 2006.

Despite the success, Osei-Fosu admitted he and Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah, a former Black Stars boss, found little reason to celebrate their win over Ghana.

“I was sad, likewise Kwesi Appiah, after we won in Libya against Ghana. I walked straight to the dressing room and couldn’t utter a word,” he told 3Sports.

Appiah’s appointment in September 2023 has been transformative for Sudan, with their qualification viewed as an impressive achievement under his leadership. Osei-Fosu expressed confidence in their potential to make an impact in Morocco.

“Kwesi Appiah goes into every game with the expectation to win, and that is exactly what we are going to do in Morocco, but we will take it game after game. Our expectations going into the AFCON 2025 is to win, and we believe that we have the quality to do that,” Osei-Fosu said.
