Our Democracy is Safe, Let’s Deepen It – Mahama

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians of the resilience and strength of the nation’s democracy, following the successful conclusion of the 2024 general elections. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, December 11, Mahama reflected on his meeting with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra and shared his thoughts on the future of Ghana’s democratic process.

Mahama emphasized the significance of the electoral process, noting that despite the anxieties and concerns leading up to election day, Ghana had once again demonstrated the strength of its democratic systems. He underscored that both the nation and its democracy had emerged victorious from the recent elections.

“Democracy and Ghana are the winners following the electoral process. Despite all the anxieties people had ahead of the election and voting day, Ghana has done it again,” Mahama wrote.

He also highlighted the importance of bipartisan cooperation in ensuring that Ghana’s democratic framework continues to thrive. Mahama called for unity and collective action to build on the progress made, further consolidating the country’s democracy.

“We can be sure that our democracy is safe, and by working together across bipartisan lines, we can continue to deepen and consolidate it,” he added.

Mahama’s comments come at a critical time, as Ghana moves forward with the transition process under his leadership. His call for cooperation and unity echoes his commitment to fostering a stable and inclusive political environment in the country.

The President-elect’s reassurances reflect confidence in Ghana’s democratic foundations, and his message emphasizes the need for continued dialogue and collaboration among all political factions to ensure that the country’s democracy remains strong and progressive.
