Over 70 percent of the population are Christians, don’t joke with us – Mahama warned

Former Forestry Commission official, Charles Owusu, has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama that he risks the anger of Ghanaians if he fails to sign the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, also known as the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Charles Owusu expressed concern that comments and actions by members of the Mahama administration suggest a lack of commitment to passing the bill, despite the President’s earlier assurances.

“Over 70 percent of the population are Christians. Don’t joke with us. You can’t use the name of God to win power and then put Him aside. It won’t happen,” he said.

He noted that while he was giving the President the benefit of the doubt, failure to act could have serious political consequences for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), especially ahead of the 2028 elections.

“If he leaves power without signing it, won’t the NDC want to win the 2028 election? We will show them….if they fail to fulfill that promise, they will definitely hear from Ghanaians,” he cautioned.

Charles Owusu, who said he voted for Mahama because of his promise to pass the bill, stressed that politicians must not take citizens for granted.
