Please let him finish IMF deal first – Akufo Addo to NPP MPs who want Ofori Atta sacked

Akufo Addo has told the NPP MPs who want Ken Ofori-Atta to step down as Finance Minister to wait until Ghana’s talks with the International Monetary Fund are over (IMF).

The President says that removing Mr. Ofori-Atta from his job will mess up the plan.

Nana Akufo-Addo asked the angry MPs to calm down when he met with them at the Jubilee House.

Citi News heard that the MPs didn’t like the appeal and still wanted the Finance Minister to leave.

Nana Akufo-Addo has asked Ken Ofori-Atta for three more weeks to finish the talks with the IMF.

Some NPP MPs say that the government hasn’t done anything to help their constituents who are suffering because of the bad economy, even though they have tried many times.

So, on Tuesday, October 20, 2022, they held a press conference to express their anger and demand the heads of Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.

Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, MP for the Asante-Akim North Constituency and spokesperson for the group of unhappy Majority MPs, told the media on Tuesday that firing Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen will help restore confidence in Ghana’s economy.

“The recent change in the economy is a big worry for our caucus and for the people we represent. We told our president how worried we were about him through the leaders of the party and the parliament, but he didn’t do anything about it.

“We want the president to change the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry as soon as possible to give the financial sector hope and stop the slowing growth of the economy,” he said.

Several Ghanaians put pressure on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to get rid of Mr. Ofori-Atta because of the country’s bad economy, which has forced the government to ask the International Monetary Fund for help (IMF).

A motion for a vote of censure against Ofori-Atta has also been made by the minority in Parliament.
