PNC declares support for NDC’s presidential candidate John Mahama

The People’s National Convention (PNC) have declared its support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the December 7 elections after its presidential candidate was disqualified.

The party’s decision comes after a National Executive Meeting was held on Tuesday, November 26 2024, where majority of the party’s executive supported the decision.

Announcing its decision in a press conference on Wednesday, November 27, the National Chairman of the party, Asaki Sampson Awingobit said they cannot take a neutral stance, hence will align with the NDC.

“Nine days to the general elections, the PNC cannot remain neutral. We had 15 regional representatives for our NEC meeting today.

“At the end of deliberation, we collectively and majority declare that the PNC, we will throw our support to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Presidential Candidate for the 2024 general elections,” he announced.

“We have thrown our support so that the next government will be formed by the NDC collaborated and supported by the PNC,” the Chairman added.

Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah was disqualified from contesting the 2024 elections on September 20, 2024.

Out of the 24 presidential aspirants who filed nominations, Bernard Mornah was amongst 11 of the aspirants who were disqualified by the EC. Most of the disqualified aspirants are Independent candidates.

Explaining the reason for the disqualification, the EC said it detected errors in Bernard Monarh’s nomination forms.

He subsequently contested his disqualification in the High Court and Supreme Court but lost the case.
