Police Intercept 88 Individuals Allegedly Recruited for Election Security in Western North
The Ghana Police Service has detained 88 individuals who were intercepted aboard two Metro Mass Transit buses at Benchema, near Asawinso in the Western North Region, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
According to preliminary investigations, the individuals were allegedly recruited by a man identified as “Sammy” from various locations in the Greater Accra Region, including Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina. The group was reportedly being transported to provide unauthorized security at polling stations in some constituencies within the Western North Region.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting authorities with the investigation.
Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend Sammy, the alleged recruiter, to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful election process and have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to election security or interference.
