Popular Ghanaian chef dead
Chef Big Mo, a well-known US-based Ghanaian chef and owner of Osu RE Grill in the Bronx, has passed away.

The sad news was confirmed on social media by veteran musician Prince Bright of Buk Bak and blogger Phylx Entertainment, both of whom shared heartfelt tributes to the man celebrated for his delicious food, lively personality, and deep ties to the Ghanaian community abroad.
Chef Big Mo ran Osu RE Grill, a popular Ghanaian and Caribbean restaurant located at 1344 E Gunhill Road in the Bronx. The eatery became a beloved spot for Ghanaians and others in New York, known for its rich flavours and welcoming atmosphere. It was a favourite among Ghanaian celebrities, businesspeople, and families seeking a taste of home.
Though the cause and timing of his death have not yet been made public, messages of condolence have flooded in from around the world. Many have described him as “a pillar in the community” and “a man with a heart as warm as his kitchen.”
To honour his memory, Prince Bright has announced a candlelight vigil scheduled for Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Osu RE Grill. Friends, family, and loyal customers are expected to gather at the restaurant to remember and celebrate the life of the chef who brought people together through food and friendship.
