Real Madrid takes final decision on sacking Alonso after defeat to Man City

Marca reports that Xabi Alonso will have one more chance to prove himself at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Many expected the former Spain midfielder to be sacked after Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night, but the club has decided to give him more time to turn things around.

Real Madrid have been struggling in both LaLiga and the Champions League, with only two wins in their last eight matches. They were beaten by City with goals from Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland, adding to the pressure on Alonso.

Ahead of the game, there were reports that the former Liverpool star could lose his job if Madrid suffered another defeat. The team had already been jeered off the pitch in their previous home match after a shock 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo.

According to Marca, the club’s leadership wants to give Alonso more time to find solutions and restore the team’s form. Despite their struggles, Real Madrid still sit seventh in the Champions League standings, which remains within the automatic qualification zone, as the top eight teams advance.
