Rita Sowah retains La Dadekotopon seat for second term

The La Dade-Kotopon Member of Parliament (MP) on the ticket of the National Democratic Con­gress, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has retained her seat for the second term.

She polled 46,728 votes to beat her contender, Mr Joseph Kwashie Addo of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who garnered 23,217 votes.

Independent candidates, Vin­cent Odotey Sowah and Abbey David Anertey polled 2,621 and 290 votes respectively.

The exercise recorded 73,269 total votes cast with 72,856 total valid votes and 413 total rejected ballots.

The Constituency Returning Officer of the EC, Seth Obese Osei, announced the results after nearly 20 hours after close of polls on Saturday.

For the Presidential, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC polled 50, 672 votes and Dr Mahamadu Bawumia secured 20,888.

The independent candidate, Nana Kwame Bediako had 754 votes, followed by Alan J.K. Kyerematen with 287 votes, Nana A.Frimpomaa, 69 votes and Christian K. Andrews recording 65 votes.

The rest are Hassan A. Ayariga gaining 33 votes, Daniel A. Lartey Jnr.14 votes, Kofi Koranteng securing 12 votes, George Twum-Barimah-Adu getting 8 votes, Kofi Akpalu earning 7 votes and Moham­med Frimpong getting 5 votes.

The total votes cast were 73,438, with 72,814 total valid votes and 624 total rejected ballots.

Ms Sowah thanked the constituents for giving her the nod for the second time to lead them and promised not to fail them.

She said the NDC will be reset and promised to see to the construction of the demolished La General Hospital and also see to it that residents get a fair share of the development in the constituency.

The US Ambassador to Ghana,Virginia E. Palmer, who was observing the count­ing process congratulated the security, EC officials and the electorates for their conduct throughout the exercise and urged any candidate with chal­lenges to use the steps in the constitution to address their concerns.
