Salah’s milestone leads Liverpool to Champions League last 16

Mohamed Salah reached a personal landmark with his 50th European goal for Liverpool as the Reds secured a spot in the Champions League last 16 by defeating 10-man Lille at Anfield.

Salah opened the scoring in the 34th minute, expertly chipping over Lucas Chevalier after connecting with Curtis Jones’ incisive through ball.

Despite Lille’s impressive 21-match unbeaten streak, they struggled to contain Liverpool after the opener. Salah came close to extending the lead twice, missing a one-on-one and curling a shot just wide.

Lille’s Aissa Mandi was sent off just before halftime after receiving a second yellow card for fouling Luis Diaz, with his first card issued for dissent earlier in the game. Surprisingly, Lille equalized shortly after, as Jonathan David capitalized on a deflected effort to score.

Liverpool quickly responded, regaining the lead through Harvey Elliott’s deflected strike following a cleared corner. Darwin Nunez later had a goal disallowed for offside after Federico Chiesa’s attempt was parried.

With seven wins in seven games, Liverpool remains unbeaten in the tournament and advances as a top-seeded team for the last 16, where they will face one of the play-off winners in March.
