Sam George in trouble over temporary DStv value increase

Social media has erupted with criticism of Minister of Communications, Digital Technologies and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, after it was revealed that the much-publicised “value increases” for DStv subscribers may only last for a short period.

On September 29, 2025, Sam George announced that Ghanaian DStv customers would enjoy 33% to 50% more channel value in their current packages following negotiations with MultiChoice. Many took this to mean a permanent upgrade or an immediate price cut.

However, on October 1, 2025, MultiChoice Ghana Limited clarified that the added value was part of a three-month promotional campaign called “We’ve Got You,” which will run from October 1 to December 31, 2025.

This revelation triggered backlash across X, Facebook, and other platforms, with many accusing both the minister and DStv of misleading the public.

Some netizens said the announcement created expectations of lasting relief, only for it to be revealed as temporary.

Others suggested that Sam George had unknowingly served as a free promoter for the DStv campaign.

“Some of you really think Sam George dey fight DStv for consumers. Open your eyes, this whole saga dey look like influencer promo pass real regulation.”

“Naah, I gotta give it to DSTV. I thought I’d seen top-tier finessing… but what they did to Sam George… that’s a discovery.”

Still, supporters of the minister defended his actions, arguing that his intervention was genuinely aimed at protecting consumers and that the trolling was unwarranted.

“What Hon. Sam George is fighting for us in regards to DSTV is to our benefit as citizens. I don’t see why some are bent on seeing him fail. DSTV is emboldened disrespectfully by our divisiveness,” one supporter wrote…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
