Sam George vs DSTV: The story so far
Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has responded to Multichoice’s recent statement that it cannot reduce DStv subscription fees in Ghana.

Addressing the issue, Sam George emphasized that his call for reduced fees is in the best interest of Ghanaians. He stated that Multichoice’s release only confirmed his earlier concerns.
“I have read the release by DStv Ghana and taken full consideration that they vindicate my earlier position — that they simply do not take the Ghanaian people seriously enough,” he said.
He compared the situation to Nigeria, where Multichoice rolled back price increases after being taken to court. “The same group reversed price hikes in Nigeria when the authorities intervened. The Nigerian House of Representatives even ordered a suspension, and they complied,” he pointed out.
The Minister noted that despite the cedi’s appreciation, DStv implemented a 15% price increase in April 2025. Multichoice, in its response, said it had offered an alternative to the Minister’s directive. Sam George, however, rejected the proposal and made it public for transparency.
“They proposed that I allow them to keep the high bouquet prices but prevent them from remitting the revenue to their headquarters. In my honest view, that offer makes no sense. My goal is for Ghanaians to pay fair prices for the services provided. How does withholding revenue address that?” he questioned.
Sam George reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a reduction in subscription fees.
“I remain open to constructive engagements focused solely on price reduction. Anything outside of that is irrelevant,” he stated.
