Sex for Marks Scandal: Another lecturer caught pants down

NIGERIA – A dean of one of the science faculties at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) is under investigation for allegedly soliciting sex in exchange for awarding marks to a female student.

The case came to light after the lecturer was set up in a hotel in Gwarimpa, Abuja, where he had planned to meet the student. According to Daily Trust, the student, who had been pressured by the dean for sexual favors, reported the matter to both the university’s security unit and the police.

The dean reportedly threatened to fail the student in a course unless she complied with his demand. Security agents asked the student to cooperate in a sting operation, which led to the professor booking a hotel room in Gwarimpa.

“The dean was caught pants down in the hotel room trying to have sex with the student,” the source said.

Although the university falls under Lugbe Police Station, the operation and arrest were carried out by officers from Gwarimpa. “He was taken to the police station that night and made to give a statement,” the source told Daily Trust.

The university has reportedly kept the incident confidential, which explains why it has not been made public. “Very few in the university know this has happened between the dean and his student and that is why other details of it are not available,” the source added.

The incident is believed to have occurred about four weeks ago during the first-semester examinations for the 2018/2019 academic session. Students resumed for the second semester last Monday after a two-week break following the exams.

The Chief Security Officer of the university, Ibrahim Abdullahi Buga, could not be reached as his phone was switched off. However, a source in the security department said the university management had set up a committee to investigate the alleged sexual assault.

The acting Information Officer, Hajiya Maryam Mohammed, confirmed the committee’s establishment and said the staff member had been issued a query. “You know the man in question has been issued a query as a panel has been constituted to listen to him in order to give him a fair hearing. That’s where we are right now because we have to wait for the committee to do something about it. So I cannot tell you anything again until the committee finishes its work and as soon as there is anything, I will let you know,” she said.

Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner Bala Ciroma also confirmed that the police received a report of alleged sexual assault from the female student and said the matter is under investigation…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
