How Chelsea got the jump on smart Scandinavian clubs to secure 18 year old goal machine on trial

Clubs in Scandinavia have a strong history of picking up talents from Africa and developing them before selling them on to the big 5 leagues. You’ve only got to look at David Datro Fofana, whom Chelsea bought from Norwegians Molde a little over a year ago, for a recent Blues-related example.

In this case however, it looks like we may have got the jump on some of our Northern cousins.

We’ve already reported this morning on Hafiz Umar Ibrahim, who is coming to Chelsea on a two week trial starting today.

But a nice new detail just added by Ben Jacobs is that this is all happening after Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt weren’t able to get the Nigerian on their books in February.

If we end up signing the 18 year old and he goes on to be a success, it will be a rare win for us as we cut out the middle man and get the raw talent direct from the source. We’ll be keeping an excited eye on how he gets on in these next two weeks.
