The England U21 team are in action against Azerbaijan today, and there’s some consternation from Chelsea fans that Carney Chukwuemeka isn’t in the matchday squad, despite having been called up.
Noni Madueke is present and starting, but Carney is not there.
There is a lot of concern that this is an injury issue, not surprisingly given he’s missed almost the whole season so far. He had made a brilliant recent return to action, including scoring off the bench at the weekend in the FA Cup game against Leicester, so him not being included is very worrying.

Let’s pray is just a minor issue that’s kept him out. We’ve been hoping that this final phase of the season post-international break would be the moment he steps up and gets a regular run in the team at last.
Let’s hope we get some more information from head coach Lee Carsley after the game.
