The NDC is our opponent, not ourselves – Bawumia tells NPP faithful
Former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stressed the importance of unity within the party as a key strategy to restore the trust of Ghanaians ahead of the December 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the NPP’s Extraordinary National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Dr. Bawumia urged members to stay focused and committed to the shared goal of victory.
“With unity and consistency, we can regain the trust of Ghanaians,” he said.
He acknowledged that while the party had achieved significant progress in government, a lack of cohesion and inconsistent messaging had damaged public perception.
“We must admit that when we are not united or when our message is not consistent, the people lose confidence in us. Let us not take their trust for granted,” he cautioned.
Dr. Bawumia called on all levels of the party to avoid internal divisions and instead focus on building a campaign that resonates with the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.
“Let us go to the people with humility, honesty and a clear vision. That is how we can win together,” he added.
He also appealed for an end to internal wrangling and public attacks as the party prepares for the January 31, 2026, flagbearer election.
“I want to use this occasion to appeal to all party faithful: let us stop the internal attacks now,” he stated.
“The NDC is our opponent, not ourselves. We cannot go into this election divided and expect to win.”
Dr. Bawumia stressed that internal criticism must be constructive and communicated through the right channels, noting that disunity only weakens the party’s chances.
He concluded by encouraging members to project unity, discipline, and maturity in order to retain the confidence of the electorate.
“We have a lot to be proud of as a party, but we must guard against actions that undermine our collective strength,” he said. “Together, we can win the 2028 general election. But first, we must be united.”
