There is blood on Ewurabena Aubynn’s hands – Sammi Awuku

Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Samuel Awuku, has delivered strong criticism against the government and law enforcement agencies for their silence following the violence that occurred during the recent Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

He claimed that the newly sworn-in MP, Ewurabena Aubynn, emerged from what he termed a “violent election.”

Awuku’s comments followed events in Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, when Minority MPs staged a walkout prior to Aubynn’s swearing-in. The protest came after Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh was not allowed to speak before the oath-taking ceremony.

In an interview with Citi News’ Hanson Agyemang, Awuku condemned the rerun, alleging it was marked by acts of brutality and intimidation that left several individuals injured and traumatised.

“We clearly believe that she is a product of a violent election that left people maimed, that left people traumatized, and also that left people severely beaten,” Awuku asserted.

He criticised the government for what he described as ignoring the violence, adding that the silence from the Presidency and security agencies raises questions about possible government involvement.

“The noisy silence of the law enforcement agencies gives us the impression that these operatives and those who acted in that manner gives us an impression that they had the tacit endorsement of government. Why? Because it is very strange that not a single act of condemnation had come from the quarters of the presidency,” he added.

Awuku’s comments reflect growing tensions surrounding the by-election, which the Minority has labelled as flawed due to alleged irregularities and state-backed violence. The Ablekuma North rerun continues to be a focal point of debate regarding the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process.
