Thomas Partey is a massive player – Arteta
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has described Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey as “massive” after the Gunners eased their way to a memorable 5-1 Champions League win over Sporting CP on Tuesday night.
Partey was dropped from Arsenal’s starting lineup for the first time this season against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League over the weekend.
However, the Ghanaian responded positively to that, making an instantaneous impact after his introduction six minutes into the second half, scoring a stunning long range goal, underlining his impact to the Gunners.
Partey was once again unplayable at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Tuesday.
He completed 60 out of his attempted 65 passes, touched the ball 72 times, provided one key pass, won three out of five contested ground duels, won two tackles and teed up Saka to find Havertz for Arsenal’s second goal.
“I think it’s one of the best performances I have seen from him, especially the way he’s dominated the game. This year he’s been so consistent as well because he always has a role, that’s a big thing, he’s a massive player for us,”Arteta said.
Partey has been a vital cog in Arsenal’s midfield this season, making impactful contributions whether starting or coming off the bench.
The Ghanaian midfielder has scored two goals in 12 league appearances and has played a crucial role in the Gunners’ success, providing balance and stability to both their attacking and defensive efforts in the current campaign.
