Two SHS Lukman and Gideon shot dead

Two male students of Nalerigu Senior High School in the North East Region have been killed in a shooting incident believed to be tied to the ongoing Bawku conflict, according to a report by myjoyonline.com.

The fatal attack occurred on the evening of Saturday, July 26, 2025, when unidentified gunmen entered the school and opened fire, killing the students instantly.

The victims, known by their first names Lukman and Gideon, were reportedly inside their dormitory when the shooting took place.

The incident has left the school community and nearby areas in mourning, with widespread concern and alarm over increasing insecurity in the region.

Reports suggest that the attack may be linked to the long-standing ethnic conflict in Bawku, which has occasionally extended its violence into neighboring areas.

Dasmani Fuseini, Assembly Member for the Denugu Electoral Area and uncle to one of the victims, confirmed the deaths.

He noted that the bodies are currently with the police, and arrangements are underway for their release to the families for burial.

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far.

Meanwhile, there are growing calls for improved security in schools located in areas affected by conflict to help prevent further tragedies.
