Vendor at Hohoe main lorry station commits suicide

A mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Torkoni/Blave, Hohoe Municipality, Volta Region, has reportedly taken his own life, leaving residents shocked.

The incident came to light around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

The deceased, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, also sold items such as toothpaste, sponges, and brushes at the Hohoe main lorry station.

Mr Derek Adzoe, Assembly Member for the Torkoni/Blave Electoral Area, told the Ghana News Agency that sources confirmed the man was a MoMo vendor and was heard making phone calls earlier in the day.

He said the conversation suggested someone was demanding money, which the deceased said he would settle via MoMo or electronic cash (e-cash).

Mr Adzoe added that sources indicated some individuals later visited the deceased’s home, knocked on his door, and threatened to report him to the police.

The deceased’s brother reported that his sibling’s mood changed after receiving the calls, though he did not reveal the details.

According to Mr Adzoe, the brother left for town and, upon returning, found the door locked. After several failed attempts to reach him by phone, the door was forced open, and the deceased was found dead.
