VIDEO: Accra Mayor caught on camera harassing MTTD police officer

The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, was captured in a tense exchange with a police officer from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) after receiving complaints that the officer was allegedly extorting money from drivers at Tudu in Accra.

In a video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Mayor is seen confronting the officer and demanding that he remove his helmet to reveal his identity. The officer, however, stood his ground and refused.

“If I remove it, I will be violating the rules of the Ghana Police Service. If I remove it, it constitutes improper dressing, and so I can’t,” the officer calmly stated.

The exchange escalated when the officer tried to explain himself, but the Mayor interrupted him sharply, yelling, “Shut up! Who are you?”

The officer responded, “I am a police officer.”

The Mayor then accused him of extorting drivers, saying, “You are collecting money from drivers.”

The officer denied the accusation, replying, “Did you see me collecting money? You can’t just say I was collecting money. Whatever you want to do, go ahead and do it.”

Following the back-and-forth, the Mayor turned to his team and said, “Leave him alone, let’s go,” and walked away.

It is not yet clear whether the Mayor took any official action against the officer after the confrontation.
