Watch as President Mahama, First Lady steals spotlight at Dr Omane Boamah’s thanksgiving service
President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, have joined mourners at the thanksgiving service for the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra.

The service forms part of the final rites of the state burial held for the former Minister of Defence, who died alongside seven others in the tragic military helicopter crash at Adansi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The President and the First Lady arrived under heavy security and were warmly ushered into the church, where family members, government officials, friends and sympathisers had already gathered. The crash victims were on their way to Obuasi to attend a mining-related programme when the tragedy struck. Those who lost their lives included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Samuel Sarpong, NDC First Vice Chairman and former Ashanti Regional Minister; Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO.
The crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, were also killed. They have since been honoured with posthumous promotions to their next ranks.
