Ghana’s Parliament has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late highlife legend, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, following his death on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

During a solemn session on the floor of the House, Members of Parliament expressed deep sorrow and admiration for the music icon, celebrating his immense contributions to Ghana’s cultural heritage.

MP for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, described Daddy Lumba as “one of Ghana’s greatest musical legends—a true maestro whose influence spanned generations and extended beyond national borders.” He praised Lumba’s music for its lyrical depth, emotional impact, and social relevance.

“His songs were more than melodies,” Mr. Konadu said. “They were emotional journeys that touched hearts and provoked thought.”

MP for Nsuta-Kwaman Beposo, Adelaide Agyeiwaa Ntim, echoed the sentiment, hailing Lumba as a national treasure and advocating for a state burial in his honour.

“Daddy Lumba’s music captured the essence of Ghanaian life—love, struggle, joy, and tradition. He was a pioneer in both highlife and hiplife, and mentored many young artists,” she noted.

Madam Ntim also proposed the institution of a national honour and an initiative to preserve and promote his musical legacy for future generations.

The passionate tributes from Parliament reflect the widespread grief and admiration for Daddy Lumba, whose music shaped the soundscape of Ghana for over three decades.
