We suffered the most humiliating defeat ever in 2024 elections – NPP UK Chairman
Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) UK Chapter, Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, popularly known as Wofa K, says the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections should not be blamed on its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, but rather on the NPP’s weak internal structures.

Sharing his views on what led to the party’s loss, Wofa K pointed out that the NPP went into the elections with a broken system that lacked coordination and unity—from the grassroots to national leadership. According to him, this lack of cohesion and effective organization was a major factor behind the party’s poor performance.
“Dr Mahamudu did not cause us to lose the elections. If our polling stations, electoral areas, constituencies, and regional structures had been much stronger, with the national leadership acting as a strong regulator, we would not have suffered the humiliating defeat we saw in the 2024 general elections,” he said.
In his blunt assessment, Wofa K stated that the NPP had become so weak structurally that the party could have still won the election with a symbolic or even unqualified candidate if its internal systems had been solid.
He argued that the problem had little to do with the candidate and more with long-standing neglect of the party’s grassroots and internal framework. Using a sharp metaphor, he said even if someone as notable as Barack Obama had been their candidate, the party would still have lost due to its weak foundation.
Wofa K described the NPP as “a wounded lion” that lacked proper leadership and crisis management. He urged the party to go back to the basics and reorganize itself from the polling station level to the top if it hopes to win power again in 2028.
He also said the NPP is now in an extraordinary political situation and must adopt bold and strategic measures to regain its lost strength. He called for a deliberate plan to win back the parliamentary seats the party lost and reconnect with the over two million voters who abandoned the NPP in 2024.
Wofa K stressed the need for the party to reassess its approach, warning that without urgent reforms, the 2028 elections could be extremely difficult. He noted that party members are growing restless, and if the right steps aren’t taken, the NPP could face even bigger challenges.
“Some individuals are growing restless, and the situation is becoming increasingly complex. If there is any election that requires meticulous attention, it is the National Election because its outcome determines the fate of the party at every level. Had our structures been robust, we would have emerged victorious—even with a monkey as our candidate,” he said.
His comments have sparked discussions within NPP circles, with many party members acknowledging the need for urgent reforms to rebuild and reposition the party for future elections.
