Why is Hawa Koomson not been arrested?” – NDC’s Ako Gunn questions

Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ako Gunn, is questioning the Ghana Police Service over the arrest of only NDC members in connection with the violent disturbances that marred the recent Ablekuma North by-election.

His concerns follow the announcement by Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, that eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the chaos that erupted during the rerun of elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the IGP confirmed that the suspects are being processed for court and assured that the law would take its course.

But Mr. Gunn, contributing to a panel discussion on Peacefm’s “Kokrokoo” Morning Show, expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that all eight suspects arrested are NDC members.

“I don’t have any problem with the police doing their work, but it becomes offensive when all eight arrested persons are from the NDC. Does it mean the chaos occurred without any provocation?” he questioned.

He further referenced viral video footage from the incident, pointing fingers at NPP’s Hawa Koomson, whom he accused of playing a central role in the disturbances.

“We all watched the videos and saw that Hawa Koomson was at the centre of the controversy. She even had pepper spray. Why has she not been arrested?” Gunn questioned.
