Yamin’s post on Facebook sparks reactions amid AG’s probe over alleged galamsey involvement

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has directed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate Joseph Yamin, National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the party’s National Vice Chairman, Yakubu Abanga, over alleged illegal mining activities.

In a letter dated Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Dr. Ayine cited growing public concern, intelligence, and media reports about unauthorised mining operations in several districts as the basis for the directive. He further instructed EOCO to expand its investigation to include any other individuals found to be complicit in the unlawful activities.

Following the directive, Joseph Yamin responded on his official Facebook page, posting an image referencing the Attorney General’s call and attaching a cryptic anecdote from his early days at the 4BN military barracks.

In the story, Yamin recounted how he and others were once caught by a soldier while trying to hunt the soldier’s cat. Though they denied the act, the soldier insisted he had seen them and warned, “Tomorrow everybody go hear of it.” The next morning, the news had already spread throughout the barracks.

Yamin used the anecdote to draw a parallel to his current situation, seemingly suggesting that, like the incident with the cat, the Attorney General’s directive could trigger public attention and consequences.

He concluded with a cautionary message: “When you see a lion sleeping, please don’t wake it up because you may not like the action of the lion. A quote from the soldier I am borrowing: tomorrow everyone will hear of us.”

Meanwhile, the Attorney General has urged EOCO to treat the matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.
