You can’t even perform surgery on them because the skin is bleached – Dr Kofi Ansah Brifo

Dermatologist and Founder of Skin Foundation, Dr Kofi Ansah Brifo, has said that skin bleaching interferes with the skin’s natural ability to heal, making wounds take longer to recover.

He explained that people who bleach their skin are more likely to experience delayed healing, but often blame doctors when injuries or wounds do not heal fast enough.

Dr Brifo noted that such individuals overlook the fact that bleaching removes layers of the skin, leaving it vulnerable to various risks and slowing the healing process.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, he said the strong steroids found in some bleaching products damage collagen, which plays a key role in skin repair.

He also warned that performing surgery on bleached skin can be very challenging and urged the public to stop the practice.

“Someone gets involved in an accident and is brought to the emergency room, and you can’t even perform surgery on this person because the skin has been bleached,” he said…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
