2024 Elections: Why did you forced what they don’t like on them – Fmr NPP MP Subtly jabs Akufo-Addo

Former Subin MP, Eugene Boakye Antwi, says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections was more than just a political loss—it was a clear signal for the party to take a hard look at its leadership style and how it engages with the people.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Antwi said the outcome of the election should push the party into serious self-reflection.

“The 2024 election was not just a political loss. It was a wake-up call. At some point, as a leader, you need to sit down and listen to your people,” he said.

He explained that the NPP lost its connection with ordinary Ghanaians because of rigid systems and communication that didn’t reflect the everyday struggles of the people.

“Our systems became too rigid, and our messaging disconnected from the people we were elected to serve,” he explained.

Mr. Antwi pointed to the unpopular Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) as a major example of this disconnect. He questioned why the government would go ahead with a policy that so many people opposed.

“If the people who voted for you tell you the E-Levy won’t help them, why then do you go ahead and implement it?” he questioned.

He also criticised the government for creating a sense of inequality, where some citizens were overburdened with taxes while others lived lavishly without fulfilling basic responsibilities like paying property rates.

“Meanwhile, people have built big houses and are renting them out without paying property rates. There were a lot of things that just weren’t right. So how did we expect the masses to vote for us again?” he asked. “They definitely will vote against us, and that’s why we lost.”

Looking forward, Mr. Antwi stressed that for the NPP to have any chance of regaining power in 2028, the party must focus on unity and internal reforms.

“We need stability in the party. We must listen, adjust, and work to win back the trust of Ghanaians,” he added.
