2024 Elections: You paid for Akufo-Addo’s sin – Bawumia told

Kwame A Plus, the MP-elect for Gomoa Central, has shared his views on why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 general elections so badly.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, the former Hip-Hop artist said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, was not the problem. He believes Bawumia only suffered because of the poor leadership of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to A Plus, Akufo-Addo let the whole country down, and under his watch, the NPP has fallen apart. He described the President as a poor leader, adding that the NPP is now unattractive. He blamed part of the problem on having regional chairmen like Wontumi and Abronye, saying it shows how disorganised the party has become.

He explained that the 2024 results were protest votes and not because Ghanaians disliked Bawumia. He said:

“If Ghanaians vote and Nana Addo is not around, the NDC can lose the elections. The 2024 elections were protest votes, not because Ghanaians didn’t like Bawumia.”

He also criticised Akufo-Addo for refusing to sack former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, despite many Ghanaians demanding it. A Plus believes the President was only protecting his personal interests.

“Everyone was calling for the head of Ken Ofori-Atta, but because he had interest, he never listened.”

He concluded by saying:

“Akufo-Addo must come out and tell the NPP that he is sorry. The party that was handed to him has only benefited his family. Bawumia did nothing wrong but paid for Akufo-Addo’s sins. Bawumia’s only fault was his failure to manage the exchange rate.”
