5 Barcelona players in exchange for Nico Williams

Nico Williams’ arrival at FC Barcelona is moving closer to reality as the club prepares for a crucial summer. The young Spanish winger is at the centre of Barça’s transfer strategy, viewed as a cornerstone in Hansi Flick’s new project. While the agreement with the player is already in place, the transfer depends on the club’s ability to clear enough wages to satisfy La Liga’s financial fair play rules. More Barcelona news here.

According to sources inside the club, President Joan Laporta, Sporting Director Deco, and Coach Hansi Flick are all aligned: Nico Williams must join this summer — and the groundwork has already been laid.

Nico Williams: The Final Piece of Flick’s New Trident

Flick views the 21-year-old Athletic Club winger as the perfect complement to Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. His pace, dribbling ability, and vertical play make him an ideal player to break down defensive setups, especially those that sit deep.

The plan is to build a dynamic attacking trio that can combine youth, energy, and technical skill — a combination Barça hopes will define a new era under Flick. Nico’s €60 million release clause is considered affordable — but only if five planned departures go through.

First Exit: Ansu Fati (Loan to Monaco)

The most advanced of the deals is Ansu Fati’s loan to AS Monaco. After a frustrating spell at Brighton and a lack of consistent minutes, the winger is ready to move on — at least temporarily. Monaco will cover nearly all his wages, giving Barça crucial breathing room.

The move was signed off by both Flick and Deco, who believe Fati needs regular game time away from the intense scrutiny of Camp Nou.

Second Exit: Pablo Torre (Permanent Move to Sevilla)

Next is Pablo Torre, who will join Sevilla after the U-21 Euros. While talented, Torre is currently behind Pedri, Gavi, Fermín López, and Dani Olmo in the pecking order. With few chances under Flick, the player has agreed to move on. However, Barça has smartly added a buy-back clause, keeping the door open if Torre blossoms at Sevilla.

Third Exit: Iñaki Peña (Goalkeeper Released)

Iñaki Peña, the current backup goalkeeper, will leave once his contract expires. In his place, Barça have already signed Joan García from Espanyol. Although Peña performed reliably, the staff wanted a new profile in goal — someone with more room for growth and technical versatility.

His exit frees up an important squad spot and salary — another tick in Barça’s financial restructuring.

Fourth Exit: Andreas Christensen (Transfer Under Negotiation)

The most likely high-value sale is Andreas Christensen. While Flick appreciates the Dane’s reliability, his departure is considered acceptable if a good offer arrives. Reports suggest Saudi clubs have tabled firm proposals. If Christensen leaves, Barça could reinvest some of the funds or prioritize a younger defensive profile.

Fifth Exit: Marc-André ter Stegen (Still Under Internal Discussion)

The most sensitive potential exit is that of Marc-André ter Stegen. Though still a top goalkeeper, his wages are among the highest at the club, and there are concerns about his long-term role under Flick. The club is reportedly open to discussing a transfer — but only if a serious offer comes in from a top European or Middle Eastern club.

A decision on the German veteran is expected in the coming weeks,
