Accra-Kumasi highway: One dead, several injured as VIP bus crashes

A tragic accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway has claimed the life of at least one person, with several others reportedly injured.

The crash, which occurred on Sunday, June 29, 2025, involved a VIP passenger bus and a Toyota Venza. According to eyewitness accounts and viral videos circulating online, both vehicles veered off the road and overturned.

The Toyota Venza, registered AS-2444-25, was severely mangled in the crash. The front of the vehicle was completely destroyed, leading many onlookers at the scene to fear the worst. In one of the videos, some people could be heard asking emergency workers in disbelief, “Did anyone survive?”

Officials later confirmed that one person in the Venza had died, though the total number of injured passengers was not immediately disclosed.

The VIP bus, while also overturned, appeared to have sustained relatively minor damage, particularly to its front section. No fatalities were reported among passengers on the bus at the time of reporting.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and clear the wreckage. Investigations are expected to determine the cause of the crash. Authorities are also urging drivers to remain cautious, especially on major highways, to help prevent further tragedies.
