Akufo-Addo and President Mahama gets on the same page for the first time
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised President John Dramani Mahama for introducing the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, set to take place on July 1, 2025.
During a visit by members of the planning committee to his home, Akufo-Addo shared his full support, calling the initiative both timely and meaningful.
He said, “We should all support this idea. It’s a good initiative for us to come together as a nation and thank the Almighty for all the blessings He has given us.”
Akufo-Addo reflected on Ghana’s journey since independence, mentioning past challenges like military coups and political instability.
He added, “Yes, we’ve had our share of problems, but the country has never fallen apart. We’ve never gone to war over politics or power struggles. That is a blessing we must appreciate.”
The former president also highlighted the strength of Ghana’s democracy, especially the peaceful change of governments in recent years.
“What happened in December last year shows that it has become part of our national culture to hold elections and hand over power peacefully,” he noted.
President Mahama has announced that July 1, formerly Republic Day, will now be observed each year as the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
