AUDIO: NPP will punish you ‘drunk’ Supreme Court judge – Abronye DC threatens
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has issued a fiery warning to Supreme Court Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, accusing him of being influenced by the current John Mahama-led administration in the ongoing case involving suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo.
Abronye made the allegations during a broadcast on his Ohiani TV platform on Saturday, June 28, 2025. He claimed that Justice Adibu-Asiedu, who is a member of the five-member committee investigating petitions for the removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo, has been compromised by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In his remarks, Abronye insisted that Justice Adibu-Asiedu, although appointed to the Supreme Court by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has bowed to pressure from the Mahama government. He warned that the NPP would not forget what he termed as “betrayal,” and would take action against the judge when the party returns to power—even if it takes decades.
“Because they were drunk, they made decisions that were unlawful. But for us, we won’t speak much now. Even if it takes 100 years, we know the judge who was on the committee. By the time NPP returns to power, he might still be in office, and we will sack him in disgrace,” Abronye fumed.
“He should know that no matter what, the NPP will remove him. He was pressured into making that decision, and when we come to power, no one will save him under an NPP government.”
Abronye further alleged that Justice Adibu-Asiedu was strategically placed on the committee to create a false appearance of neutrality. He believes the government’s goal was to make it appear as though the removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo was fair and balanced, citing the presence of an Akufo-Addo-appointed judge as evidence of this strategy.
“The reason they brought Justice Adibu-Asiedu onto the committee was strategic. When the NDC sacks the Chief Justice, the government, through people like Felix Ofosu Kwakye, will hold a press conference and claim that the committee was not biased because Adibu-Asiedu, an appointee of Nana Addo, was part of it.
“They will say that even a judge appointed by Nana Addo supports the Chief Justice’s removal.”
This comes amid growing controversy surrounding the petitions filed against Chief Justice Torkornoo, which have led to her suspension. In her response to the process, the Chief Justice has accused the Mahama government of denying her a fair hearing and described the proceedings as biased and unjust.
She has rejected all the allegations contained in the three separate petitions submitted to President Mahama, maintaining that the investigation process is flawed and politically motivated.
The situation has sparked sharp political debate, with many viewing it as a test case for the independence of Ghana’s judiciary under the current administration.
