Shirley Frimpong Manso lauds National Film Authority

The National Film Authority successfully hosted the inaugural edition of the Film Investment Breakfast Meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.

The event brought together industry experts, investors, and creatives to deliberate on critical issues, including financing in the Ghanaian film sector.

A distinguished audience, including Hon. Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, Minister Designate for Tourism, Arts, and Culture; Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Mark Okraku Mantey; and prominent filmmakers, actors, and actresses such as Jackie Appiah, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Chris Attoh, Martha Ankomah, and Adjetey Anang.

In an exclusive interview with Belinda Quansah, renowned filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso lauded the National Film Authority’s (NFA) efforts to foster collaboration between filmmakers and financiers.

Shirley believes that this initiative is crucial for the development of the film industry in Ghana.

“I think it’s a great thing that the NFA is doing,” she said.

“Putting filmmakers and financers in the same room can foster collaboration, which is essential for the production of quality films.”

She acknowledged that access to funding is a significant challenge for many filmmakers.

She expressed hope that the NFA’s initiative will lead to tangible collaborations that will enable filmmakers to realize their creative visions.

“I’ve attended numerous talk shops where all we did was talk with no action,” she said.

“But I believe that persistence is key. We need to keep pushing, and eventually, the barriers will be broken down.”

Frimpong-Manso encouraged filmmakers to take advantage of these opportunities provided by the NFA.

She emphasized the importance of networking and building relationships with potential investors. “If we want to succeed, we need to be proactive,” she said.
